Mary
    Burns is a Senior Technology Associate in the Center for Online Professional
    Education (COPE) at EDC. Prior to coming to EDC, Mary spent six years as
    a professional development provider, researcher, and curriculum developer
    at Southwest Educational Development Laboratory in Austin, TX, helping teachers
    integrate technology and employ learner-centered approaches. Most recently
    she was a researcher/evaluator, instructor and professional development specialist
    at the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey and
    at the American School in Mexico City. She also created teacher training
    curricula and conducted professional development for the World Bank and Relief
    International/SchoolsOnline in Africa and Central Asia; and served as web
    master and community development specialist for a low-income housing agency
    working in colonias along the Texas-Mexico border.
  
Mary spent 9 years as a high school and middle school teacher in the US and Jamaica. Mary holds an A.B. in Romance Languages and Political Science from Boston College; an Ed.M. from Harvard University;and an M.S. in Urban Planning and an M.A in Latin American Studies from the University of Texas at Austin.
