Judy Zorfass, Consultant (EDC)

Judith Zorfass is Senior Director of Strategic Planning and Associate Center Director in EDC’s Center for Family, School, and Community. She holds a doctorate in reading and language development from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education. In her 17-year tenure at EDC, Dr. Zorfass has been principal investigator and/or project director for 18 projects, many of which have focused on literacy development, the production of online courses for professional development, and meeting the needs of struggling students. In terms of promoting literacy development, she was the principal investigator for Project FULFILL, which studied reading strategies in the elementary grades. The Middle Grades Technology Integration Project and the Make It Happen! Impact Study focused on helping adolescents improve reading, writing, and research skills in the content areas through the use of technology. Her book, “Teaching Middle School Students to be Active Researchers,” which was published in 1998 by the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, she describes her work across the country in improving literacy and technology use in the middle grades. Currently, as principal investigator for Literacy Matters, funded by the Annenberg Foundation and the U.S. DOE , she is developing content for what matters most in adolescent literacy development and producing online workshops for teachers. As principal investigator for the National Center to Improve Practice from 1992-1997, she developed online workshops, online special events, and discussion forums. Dr. Zorfass is the author of numerous articles and a frequent presenter at national conferences.
