"Arnold Lobel's Frog and Toad"
Sample Lesson Plan
Step 5: Group Projects: Revising and Peer Editing
Target Objectives
- Children will learn how to participate in peer editing sessions to help
classmates revise their writing.
- Children will learn how to revise their compositions to improve organization
and other elements, and incorporate suggestions from peers.
- Children will learn to polish their finished writing by checking for conventions
such as spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
Student Activities
- Revise writing through peer response sessions; groups read their work aloud
to each other and give each other feedback.
- Each group will conference with me for additional feedback.
- Each group will use appropriate software (word processor and drawing software
mentioned above) to revise their writing while saving each draft.
Electronic Resources
- The same word processing and drawing software as in Step 4.
Assessment
- Save each draft of the project as a separate file; have children add each
draft to their assessment portfolios and compare them with their final products.
Impact of Technology: In what ways (if any) will technology enhance students'
learning experiences in these activities?
- Children will learn how to edit their writing using software tools. Hopefully
children will find it easier to edit using computers, so they will spend more
time thinking about improving their writing.
- Several drafts, including the final piece, can be dated, saved and compared.
